About

07162017_HoChiMin_DGS_078David has two young boys, ages 9 and 7, and a daughter, age 3, who he is raising with his wife of eleven years Katy Bowen-Roberts. They are an active family who focus their time on the outdoors, travel, sporting activities and the arts. They have chosen to call the Comox Valley on beautiful Vancouver Island home because of the rich cultural and recreational opportunities it affords in a small town setting, but love to get away for extended European adventures.

Professionally, David Mayert (BSc, BEd, MEd) is currently the Vice-Principal of George P. Vanier Secondary School. Previously he was the Co-Principal of Cumberland Community School in SD71 Comox Valley. He brings K-12 experience as a teacher and administrator in multiple districts in Alberta and British Columbia. David has been actively engaged in the SD71 21st Century Learning, Resiliency, and District Professional Learning Communities Committees. David also sits as a board member on the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Society . An advocate of Outdoor, Inquiry and Experiential Education, he worked actively to add Nature and Inquiry based options for students at Cumberland Community School. He was a part of the Ministry of Education’s Communication Competency writing team as part of the new provincial curriculum. He is currently also the Athletic Director at GP Vanier and a long time basketball and rugby coach.
